Independence, Oregon
This new Library will stand in the heart of the City’s mid 19th Century historic district. Its brick and stone exterior has been designed to compliment these surroundings while establishing a civic presence for the Library by keeping the building recessed from the main street and maintaining a park-like landscaped setting. The Library’s 7,900 S. F. interior is designed to provide a state of the art facility for Independence’s growing population. Ample book stack, reading, and staff work areas are included, as well as a community meeting room that opens to the main library space for increased flexibility. Because of the building design, this new facility will easily accommodate an addition as the City’s population grows. The project also included about 600 linear feet of sidewalk improvements around the site’s perimeter, including historic style streetlights and street trees, as well as redevelopment of the rest of the site’s 30,000 S. F. into ample parking, landscaping, and other urban amenities.
